Travel Tips      







 

Check in: At International Airport 2 hours prior to departure.

Passport: A valid passport or 'document of identity' (free from any Post Office) is required. Non Australian passport holders require a re-entry visa.

  

 

Banks & Currency: Commonwealth & Westpac Bank branches. ATM access is available. Currency is the Australian Dollar. Most credit cards are accepted.

 

 


 

Customs: Vegetables, fruit, flowers & seeds are prohibited imports to keep the island free of introduced disease.

 

Duty Free: 1 litre of alcohol & 200 cigarettes. Discounts are available on liquor at the Liquor Bond Store Upon presentation of airline tickets & passport.


 


 

Arrival: After clearing customs you will be met by Pinetree Tours or your accommodation host.

Clubs: Lions, Probus, Quota, Rotary, RSL & Leagues clubs welcome visitors. There are also Golf, Tennis, Bowls, Sports and Workers' clubs that all welcome visitors.




 

Departure: Airport taxes from Australia are pre-payable with your package. Norfolk Island has a departure tax of $30 for adults. Children under 16 years & transit passagers (less than 24 hours) are free. This fee is payable at the Norfolk Island Airport on departure or can be prepaid at the visitors centre.

Shopping: There are two supermarkets on the island open 7 days. Some grocery items are more expensive due to freight costs. Most other shops close Wednesday & Saturday afternoons. Some are open until 12 noon on Sunday.




 

Health & Medical: The 28 bed Norfolk Island Hospital provides a dental clinic, pharmacy and 24 hour emergency services. TRAVEL INSURANCE is highly recommended, as Australian Medicare does not extend to Norfolk Island.

   

Driving: A current drivers licence is required. Speed limit is 50km/h & 40km/h in shopping areas. A rental car is the most practical & economical way of getting around the island. Vehicle insurance is essential.

 



 

Information: The visitor information centre is open 7 days a week for your convenience.

 

Fishing & boating: There are several licensed tour operators that can offer a large aray of fantastic fishing & boating trips. "Fisherman's Paradise".







 

Time Zone: Norfolk Island is one & a half hours ahead of Australia Eastern Standard Time, half an hour ahead during daylight saving time.

 

Snorkelling & Diving: Norfolk offers over 30 world class dive sites or snorkel in the tranquil waters of Emily Bay.


 

 

Climate: Sub tropical - summer time approximately 19-24c & Winter 12-21c.

 

Picnic Areas: Several picnic & barbeque facilities available at many of the island most scenic locations.


 

 

Air Serices: Norfolk Air operates from Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle & Melbourne (Melbourne service due to commence 19th Oct 2007).

     

Tours & Entertainment: Many & varied tours available including cultural, historical, sunset fish frys, clifftop breakfast BBQ's, theme dinners & more.


 

 

Baggage allowance: 20kg per person + 7kg per person hand luggage.

   

Golf & Bowls: Norfolk offers a fantastic 18 hole golf course. Several annual golf & bowls tournaments available.



 


 


 

 Dress: Comfortable & casual at all times. Good walking shoes, hat & sunscreen are recommended.

   

Walks: Choose from 9 well sign-posted bushwalking tracks. There is a track to suit every level of fitness.

Restaurants: There are in excess of 35 restaurants & eateries.



 




 

Electricty: 240 volts, 50 cycles, 3 pin plug. A power surge device is advisable for computers.
